Ohio University has a long and distinguished history of graduating successful and accomplished individuals in a wide range of fields. Some of the notable alumni of the university are:

• Ishaya Audu, Minister of External Affairs of Nigeria (1979–1983), Nigerian Ambassador to the United Nations (1979–1983).

• Cary Bates, comic book writer, DC Comics The Flash. 

• Joseph Benham, Member of first graduating class in 1815; U.S Attorney for District of Ohio; University of Cincinnati law professor.

• Wanda Kirkbride Farr, botanist. 

• Lloyd Thomas, naval aviator and recipient of the Navy Cross.
